Gods of Olympus
Developed by 1x2 Gaming, Gods of Olympus is a 5 reel, 20 pay line slot machine that's found in online casinos.
As the name implies, Gods of Olympus is one of many slot machines based on the concept of ancient Greek gods.
The term Gods of Olympus refers to the 12 major gods in Greek religion, including Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus, Hermes, Hephaestus, Hera, Poseidon, and Zeus.
Said to reside on Mount Olympus, these gods each possess incredible and unique powers. Examples include Zeus controlling thunder, Poseidon controlling the sea, and Aphrodite transforming ordinary things into something beautiful.
Given that Greek gods have been immensely popular in movies, TV shows, and online gaming, there are thousands of different takes on this subject.
Does 1x2 Gaming bring anything new to the table with Gods of Olympus? Or is it just another run of the mill slot revolving around Greek gods?
Find out as we discuss this game's atmosphere, music, animations, pay table, bonuses, betting options, and rules. We'll also compare Gods of Olympus to two online slot machines that deal with the same concept.

Gods of Olympus Slot Machines Overview
This game takes place inside a Greek column structure, with grey dirt and sand covering the ground.
The background is various shades of light blue, and you can faintly see columns and buildings in the distance.
Overall, this isn't the most original background and it's hard to tell if the game is taking place in Mt. Olympus, or on normal Greek lands. The one good thing we can say is that the background graphics look above average.
The music is a slow, classic tune filled with flutes, fiddles, and violins.
Unlike the background, which sort of fits the theme, the music doesn't remind us of Greek gods. Instead, it's like a tune used in dance scenes during medieval movies.
The only sound effect that you hear during winning payouts is a chant like sound.
This is commonly used in dramatic Greek mythology movies, and it fits well here. But it would be nice to hear a few more sound effects for variety's sake.
The animations are among the best parts of Gods of Olympus because you'll see several different ones.
Animations during winning payouts include: Hera moving her spear back and forth, the gold helmets having arrows move around them, Greek Columns moving across a temple, Zeus throwing thunderbolts, Poseidon shaking his trident while electricity flows through it, and the letters spinning around in circles.
You won't be amazed by these animations, but they're good when compared to everything else in this game.
Gods of Olympus Pay Table and Graphics
Gods of Olympus makes it easy to find the pay table with a big button on the lower right hand side. Here's a look at the symbols and payouts that you'll find:
Dressed for battle, Hera holds a golden spear and shield. She serves as the wild symbol and substitutes for everything except the scatter and bonus symbols. Hera doesn't offer any payouts on her own.
Holding a trident with his fist in the air, Poseidon triggers the bonus any time that he appears 3 or more times on the reels. The sea god also pays when appearing in normal win lines, offering 800 coins for a 5x win, 340 coins for 4x, and 110 coins for 3x.
Holding a thunderbolt and ready to strike, Zeus triggers free spins when he shows up on the reels 3 or more times. Zeus also pays when appearing in a normal win, delivering 750 coins for a 5x win, 320 coins for 4x, and 100 coins for 3x.
The Greek temple pays 700 coins for 5 symbols, 300 for 4, and 90 for 3.
Looking like a Spartan helmet, this symbol pays 650 coins for 5 symbols, 280 for 4, and 80 for 3.
The ship delivers 600 coins for 5 symbols, 260 for 4, and 70 for 3.
The ancient Greeks fought many wars over the centuries to expand and protect their empire, so it's little surprise that these weapons show up on the reels. They pay 550 coins for 5 symbols, 240 for 4, and 60 for 3.
Decorated with Greeks running, this pot delivers 500 coins for 5 symbols, 220 for 4, and 50 for 3.
The A pays 450 coins for 5 symbols, 200 for 4, and 20 for 3.
This symbol delivers 450 coins for 5 symbols, 180 for 4, and 20 for 3.
The Q pays 400 coins for 5 symbols, 160 for 4, and 20 for 3.
This letter pays 350 coins for 5 symbols, 140 for 4, and 20 for 3.
The symbol graphics are average in this game, with the helmet, pot, and sword & shield offering the best detail.
One complaint we have is that Hera, Poseidon, and Zeus are so small that it's hard to see the detail in them. They don't look bad on a PC or tablet, but it's really hard to see them on a smartphone.
The best thing that Gods of Olympus does with the symbols is put Laurel wreaths around the letters. Many slot machines use letters as lower paying symbols, but few decorate them as well as Gods of Olympus.
Gods of Olympus Slot Bonus Features
The best aspect of this slot is how you can trigger two different bonuses in free spins and a second screen pick'em game. Here's a closer look at both of these features.
When you get 3 or more Zeus symbols anywhere on the reels, you trigger 10 free spins with a 2x win multiplier.
When free spins start, the music will change while the sky gets darker. This adds a nice touch that really helps the free games feel like a bonus.
When you land 3 or more Poseidon symbols on the reel, you'll be taken inside a temple with 5 black urns sitting on a table.
You select each of the urns to see whether you get gold, cash prize, or a puff of smoke, nothing.
This bonus has nice graphics and adds some dimension to Gods of Olympus. But there isn't any element of risk because you get to pick all 5 urns no matter what.
Most other pick'em bonuses only allow you to continue picking until you make 1 3 mistakes. Obviously it's nice to get every available prize, but the downside is that this bonus round feels more fixed than most pick'em rounds.
You can change pay lines from 1 to 20, coins size from $0.01 to $0.50, and coins per line from 1 to 5. This makes the minimum bet worth one cent, and the max wager worth $50.00 per spin.
You change the betting options with the box in the lower left hand corner, marked Lines & Coin Value. This brings up three wheels that you click on / touch to rotate to your desired choice.
While this method of selecting bets is okay, we prefer the traditional method of using arrows at the bottom of the screen.
Two other options include the ability to turn sound on / off, and check your betting history.
We didn't use the speaker button because, while the music doesn't match the game, it didn't annoy us. The betting history option is only available during real money play.
For a 20 pay line slot, the win frequency was below average during the 300 to 400 spins that we played.
We experienced plenty of periods where we didn't win anything for 5 to 7 straight turns. When we did win, it was mostly due to low paying letters
The bonuses were triggered at an average frequency since we got the urn bonus twice and the free spins once.
RTP for Gods of Olympus is 95.17%, which is average for an online slot.
Frankly, we were surprised by the 95.17% RTP since this game doesn't pay frequently, nor does it offer large payouts. The highest paying symbol is Zeus, and he only pays 800 coins for 5 symbols.
To access the rules, click the I information button at the top of the screen. Most of the rules are standard for a 5 reel, 20 line slot, but we'll go over the main rules anyways:
- Line wins are multiplied by your coin size and coins per line.
- All wins are determined from left to right, beginning with the leftmost reel. The only exception is the bonus and scatter symbols, which can trigger bonuses when appearing anywhere on the reels.
- When two or more wins occur on the same line, only the biggest win is paid.
- The maximum payout is $4,000, which comes when you get 5 Zeus symbols during free spins 2x while betting a $0.50 coin and 5 coins per line.
- Gods of Olympus uses a UK certified random number generator to ensure that results are determined fairly according to the 95.17% RTP.
Comparison to Other Greek God themed Slot Machines
While there are numerous online slot machines based on Greek gods, we've whittled it down to just Rival Gaming's Coins of Olympus and WMS' Zeus III for the sake of comparison. That being said, let's discuss how Gods of Olympus compares to these two games.
As mentioned in the introduction, the Greek god genre is a crowded one whether it comes to movies or slot machines. But Coins of Olympus has the special qualities to stand out from the pack.
This game features most of the 12 Olympians, including Aphrodite, Ares, Athena, Dionysus, Hera, Hermes, Poseidon, and Zeus. Although not considered Olympians, Hercules and Hades also appear in this slot.
The animations in Coins of Olympus are more pronounced than Gods of Olympus, including Aphrodite moving a dove on her hand, Athena brandishing her sword while yelling, Dionysus guzzling his wine, and Hermes holding up a scroll before he takes off.
The best element of this game is its second screen bonus, which sees you guide Hermes through the skies in an effort to collect Zeus' lost coins. What's really fun about this bonus is that your skill determines how many coins Hermes collects and, subsequently, the size of your payout.
This game's symbol and background graphics look worse than what's seen in Gods of Olympus. But thanks to its bonus and animations, Coins of Olympus has enough distinctive features to make it entertaining.
The capper to one of WMS' most successful series, Zeus III only focuses on the most famous and powerful god.
The first thing that stands out about Zeus III is its odd setup, which features 6 reels on a 2 3 4 5 6 7 grid. This gives you 192 ways to win on each spin and offers something very different from the average slot.
We like the background and music better than what's featured in Gods of Olympus. The background shows a temple in the clouds, while the music features wind and different sounds from mythological creatures.
The graphics are on the same level as Gods of Olympus, but Zeus III's animations are more detailed.
Bonus features in this game include expanding wilds and free spins. Due to the lack of a second screen bonus, we have to give Gods of Olympus the edge here.
But overall, we like Zeus III better since it has superior animations, background, and music.
One point that we've stressed in this review is the popularity of Greek gods and goddesses. Because of this, you'll find dozens of Olympus themed online slot machines.
The problem with 1x2 Gaming's Gods of Olympus is that it doesn't do anything to stand out in this crowded niche.
The background is standard, the music doesn't match, the gods are hard to see, and the graphics are average.
This isn't to say that Gods of Olympus doesn't have any good points because we like the animations and second screen bonus.
But you can find better slot machines based on the Greek gods. Moreover, 1x2 Gaming has made plenty of slots that are more entertaining than this.
If you're a junkie for Olympus themed slot machines, then give this game a try. Otherwise, avoid Gods of Olympus because it has little to offer in this crowded genre.
