Puppy Payday Slot Machines Overview
The theme of this game is pretty obvious - puppies and lots of them.
The background features a blue sky with a fenced green lawn below it and trees on either side. From the number of pups here, we think it's safe to assume they're at a dog park.
The background music in Puppy Payday reminds us of the type of music you would hear in a children's video game. Behind the main beat, you will hear birds chirping and dogs barking.
The music is on a short loop of about a minute and a half, and if we're being honest, we had to turn the sound on mute after about 10 minutes.
Other than the music, there is the sound of the reels spinning, a "boing" sound when you click spin, and a short melody that plays for winning payouts.
We appreciate that the game's creators gave each symbol its own animation.
The puppies will blink or move their head in some way, the bones shake from side to side, and even the dog houses have moving eyes to make you think there is a pup inside.
The only symbol that isn't animated is the dog food, which we're okay with.
When you get a symbol in a winning payout, they do something a little more elaborate, like a jump forward, howl, or scratch behind their eye.
There is also a marqueebelow the reels that tells you how many spins you have left in auto bet, the total credits won in each round, and has random phrases of encouragement, like "paw-some," "it's just a mutt-er of time," and "spin and you'll get a treat."
Puppy Payday Pay Table and Graphics
The Puppy Payday slot machine has an entire kennel's worth of puppies - almost too many to keep track of.
The golden dog tag will substitute for any symbol - except the free spin dog food - to create a winning payout.Wins with a wild on the line will pay double, even if the wild is not included in the winning combination.
The free spins round triggers by landing on 3 or more dog food symbols on the same win line. 3 symbols will give you 5 free spins, 4 will give you 10, and 5 will give you 15.
Free spins will play automatically; you won't have to prompt the bonus round to begin.
The scruffy red setter is nothing to bark at. Landing this guy gets you 750 coins for 5 symbols, 200 for 4, 45 for 3, and 10 for 2.
This all-white shaggy fellow gets you 500 coins for 5 symbols, 150 for 4, 40 for 3, and 7 for 2.
The gray and white husky has you howling when you make a winning combination with him. You get 300 coins for 5 symbols, 75 for 4, 32 for 3, and 6 for 2.
Landing the large-eyed boxer puppy gets you 100 credits for 5 symbols, 40 for 4, 24 for 3, and 5 for 2.
This little long-eared fellow in his basket gets you 80 credits for 5 symbols, 40 for 4, and 22 for 3.
Not even a spiked collar is going to make this little bulldog puppy look threatening. Winning combinations with him get you 80 credits for 5 symbols, 32 for 4, and 20 for 3.
This brown little wiener dog gets you 70 coins for 5 symbols, 26 for 4, and 9 for 3.
The black- and white-patched mongrel gets you 60 coins for 5 symbols, 24 for 4, and 7 for 3.
The wooden kennel gives you 45 coins for 5 symbols, 20 for 4, and 7 for 3.
This doggy treat gives you 20 coins for 5 symbols, 10 for 4, and 4 for 3.
When it comes to symbols, we think 1x2 Gaming did a great job of depicting a puppy play day.
The variety of puppy breeds is a nice touch, and we have no complaints when it comes to symbol selection.
Puppy Payday Slot Bonus Features
The only special feature in Puppy Payday is the free spins bonus, which triggers by landing 3 or more dog food free spins in the same line.
You will know when you hit the free spin bonus when the reels dim and "Free Spins" appears across the screen.
The amount of earned free spins will play out automatically, and the marquee at the bottom will tell you how many free spins you have left.
Unfortunately, the bonus did not impress us.
The free spin round looks and sounds identical to the regular game. Also, if you are using the auto bet function and happen to look away long enough to miss "Free Spins" flash across the screen, you wouldn't even realize you triggered the bonus round.
The game will default to playing all 9 pay lines, with 1 coin per line, and a dime coin size.
You can bet a minimum of $0.01 and a maximum of $0.50, with up to 5 coins on each line. Since there are only 9 pay lines, the max wager is only worth $22.50.
The game has an auto bet option, which is nice because you won't need to keep clicking "spin" to play a round. Auto bet allows you to automate your betting to 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, or any custom betting amount up to 250.
You can cancel the auto bet function at any time by clicking the "cancel" button which replaces "spin" during auto bet.
You have the ability to adjust a few select settings within the game:
- Full screen
found at the top right corner.
- Volume adjustment
found at the bottom left corner under betting options.
- Clarity adjustment
found at the bottom left corner under betting options - you can switch between high, medium, and low clarity.
The volume adjustment came in handy for this game; the music can get a little annoying.
The clarity adjustment doesn't seem useful. The game will only change slightly and we don't see why anyone would want to play in low quality.
Puppy Payday's win frequency is average. At times we would have 10 spin streaks with no wins, but then there would be a handful of wins in another 10 spins.
When it comes to payouts, though, it can be confusing if you're used to playing games with 25 pay lines. Going from playing 25 pay lines to playing 9 makes it seem like you're having a losing streak.
The free spin round occurs at a normal rate. We were able to activate the bonus 4 times in 200 spins. We do want to mention that 3 of those times occurred within the first 100 spins, and we only had 1 bonus round in the latter set of 100.
RTP for Puppy Payday is 97.23%, which is decent for an online game.
The game rules for Puppy Payday are like other games by 1x2 Gaming. If you're familiar with their other games, you should have no problem learning the rules. Here are a few additional items to keep in mind:
- Most wins match from left to right, starting with the leftmost reel. The only exception is the dog food, which can appear anywhere on the reels.
- When two or more wins occur in the same line, only the highest value win on this line pays.
- You can choose how many pay lines to play by selecting the numbers on either side of the play space.
Puppy Payday speaks to the inner dog-lover in all of us.
But if you're looking for high stakes and excitement, this might not be the game for you.
The game's creators did a fantastic job with giving each pup its own animation.
But while we enjoyed playing with all the cute puppies, there were a few aspects we couldn't look past.
Mainly, the disappointing lack of bonus features, and the fact that the only bonus round is identical to the main game.
We also felt that the background music and atmosphere just made this game feel like it was designed to be a game for children. The small number of pay lines also doesn't help.
The only thing this slot has is puppies. And while these puppies are downright adorable, puppies alone aren't enough to make this game stand apart from the thousands of other slots out there. With all of that said, we recommended trying your luck at a different game.
